Handicapped man's stolen wheelchair-accessible van recoveredThursday, April 14, 2016
PONTIAC, MI -- A stolen 2014 Ford Econoline van customized especially for a handicapped 45-year-old Pontiac man has been recovered, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
After being reported stolen Monday, a garbage truck driver on Thursday spotted the expensive vehicle abandoned along a road in Pontiac and alerted law enforcement. It's been temporarily impounded for forensic analysis before being returned to the owner.
WJBK-TV, Fox 2 News reporter Erika Erickson on Wednesday spoke with the owner, Jeff Harris, who was paralyzed after a car crash 17 years ago. Harris, who also had his right leg amputated 1 1/2 years ago, raised nearly $100,000 to purchase the van and learned it had been stolen from outside his home while on the way to a therapy session Monday,he told Erickson.
